Additional Entry Requirements -
An interest and passion for sport and physical education. A minimum of a 4 in Science, English and Maths.

Course Content
The BTEC Sport course is all about the sporting world. It covers a range of vocational opportunities and aspects of sporting careers including the scientific anatomy and physiology about how the body works and responds to exercise in both the short and long term. The benefits of fitness training, sport, diet and nutrition on both health and fitness. It also offers the opportunity to develop practical performance, coaching skills and your understanding of the sporting industry and sports psychology.
Style of Assessment
Mandatory Units
Unit 1- Anatomy and physiology- 90 minute written exam paper

Unit 2- Fitness training and programming for health, sport and well-being- 2.5 hour written case study

Unit 3- Professional development in the sports industry- Presentation

Optional Units- Internally examined
1 unit out of the following
Unit 4- Sports leadership
Unit 5- Application of fitness testing
Unit 6- Sports psychology
Unit 7- Practical sports performance

All units will be assessed using coursework in the form of either a Powerpoint, presentation, video or written task.
Whose kind of course?
This course is designed for students who wish to continue post-16 education through applied learning in the sport sector, with the aim to progress to higher education. There are opportunities to develop employability skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, adaptability and self-development.

The course suits students who work well independently and enjoy learning about sport, the human body and health and fitness.
Career Prospects
The subjects and transferable skills taught in BTEC sport directly relate to the world of work and would give you a competitive advantage in the sports industry. Some options would include Sports Science, Sports Psychology, Sports Therapy, Physiotherapy, Management, Biology, Teaching. The independent study skills developed on this course are advantageous for higher education.
